Deployment of 4DSKY OpenFID and Jetvision MLAT sensors to support lifeline logistics to the Isles of Scilly.

Land’s End Airport, a critical hub for the Isles of Scilly, required enhanced situational awareness to manage mixed traffic (Twin Otters, helicopters, and logistics drones). Neuron deployed a 4DSKY Flight Information Display (FID) powered by a local array of Jetvision sensors, providing Air Traffic Service personnel with a real-time, 3D view of the airspace.

Operational deployment of the system supporting daily logistics. The project produced a detailed safety case and flight test appendices, validating the performance of the Jetvision hardware in a high-salt, high-wind coastal environment.1
Air Traffic Control (ATC): Enhances situational awareness in non-radar environments.Island Communities: Supports the reliability of the freight and passenger links.Drone Operators: Provides the surveillance coverage needed to fly in the Radio Mandated Zone (RMZ).
Technical Honesty and Engineering Resilience The Land’s End deployment is notable for its transparency regarding technical challenges. Initial flight trials at 500ft AGL (Above Ground Level) revealed coverage gaps due to terrain masking and the curvature of the earth over the sea. Instead of hiding this data, the engineering team used it to rigorously optimize the sensor network topology. They adjusted antenna gains and sensor heights, eventually achieving the required fidelity for the Radio Mandated Zone (RMZ). This iterative, data-led engineering process serves as a powerful trust signal to other airport clients: 4DSKY doesn't just sell "plug and play" magic; they deliver engineered solutions that respect the laws of physics.
OpenFID: Democratizing Air Traffic Management This project showcased the disruptive value of OpenFID (Flight Information Display). Traditional airport radar systems cost millions of pounds and require massive infrastructure. For regional and general aviation airports like Land’s End, this is often unaffordable. 4DSKY’s OpenFID delivers a web-based, 3D view of the airspace for a fraction of the cost, using low-cost Jetvision sensors. This democratizes safety, giving smaller airports "major airport" visibility. It allows Flight Information Service Officers (FISO) to see drones and aircraft on a single screen, a capability that is essential as mixed-mode traffic increases.
